2IB Troops Scored Anew

CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur – Troops of the 2nd Infantry Battalion (2IB) battled more or less five (5) local terrorists along the boundary of Brgy. Amtic, Ligao City and Brgy. Buang, Tabaco City, all in the province of Albay at around 11pm on October 23, 2009. The armed encounter resulted to the recovery of two (2) M16 rifles, a cache of assorted ammunitions, and rebel paraphernalia by government troops.

According to Major Harold Cabunoc, 9ID spokesman, 2IB troopers jumped off from their base camp after receiving information from residents that a group of local terrorists were seen in the vicinity of the two villages. After pinpointing their target, the troops quickly engaged the terrorists who were caught surprised. The firefight did not last long as the terrorist scampered to different directions inordinately leaving behind their rifles, assorted ammunition and some paraphernalia of intelligence value. The terrorists were so confused and terrorized at the sudden and fierce assault of government troops. Major Cabunoc likewise thanked the residents for consistently supporting the efforts of 9ID troops in the Bicol region.

On the other hand, Major General Ruperto R. Pabustan, 9ID commander, immediately extended his gratitude to the civilians in the area for their valuable support that led to the neutralization of some members of the local terrorist group (LTG). He also stressed that the nefarious activities of the rebels in the area will be lessened as they now know that the residents clearly support the peace and development effort of the government.
