CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur – Two heavily armed NPA rebels shot and killed an off-duty status CAFGU personnel in Sitio Francia, Bgy Paulba, Ligao City, Albay on 11 February 2010 at around 7:30am, an Army official said here today.
Major Harold Cabunoc, the 9ID Spokesman, said that more or less 2 NPA bandits chanced upon the CAFGU member identified as CAA Ronnie Rodolfo while on his way. He died instantly from multiple gunshot wounds. Empty casings for Cal. 5.56mm M16 Rifle were found in the scene of the crime.
Responding militiamen brought his body to a funeral parlor in Ligao City as the 2nd Infantry Battalion under LTC John Oberio sent a platoon of soldiers to pursue the fleeing bandits who were heading towards Bgy Casinagan, Ligao City.
Rodolfo is the fourth CAFGU personnel to be murdered by local communist terrorists this year. Two militiamen were also murdered in the province of Sorsogon while another one was tortured and killed in front of his family members in Catanduanes island.
“I call on the human rights organizations including Karapatan-Bicol to condemn this treacherous and gruesome killing perpetrated by the CPP-NPA-NDF. Killing unarmed soldiers and militiamen is a clear violation of human rights.”, said LtCol Leoncio Cirunay, the Commander of the 22nd Infantry Battalion.
For his part, MGen Ruperto Pabustan, commander of the 9th Infantry Division, has immediately ordered the implementation of security consciousness measures to avoid similar incidents in the future. “We will continuously respect the implemented nationwide firearms ban. We must also intensify our efforts to conduct security patrols and coordination activities with local residents so that we can arrest these bandit group members before they can attack our unarmed personnel.”, Pabustan said.
