Masbate Politician Nabbed For Illegal Possession Of Firearm

CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur –A local politician in Masbate was nabbed by combined elements of Special Task Force Masbate in a raid at his house in Bgy Nipa, Palanas, Masbate at around 5:30am yesterday, March 12, 2010.

Major Harold M Cabunoc, Spokesperson of the 9th Infantry Division said that Barangay Captain Richelieu Tamayao was caught in possession of a Cal .45 M1911A1 Pistol and several rounds of ammunitions.

Tamayo is the second politician to be charged with a criminal case for illegal possession of firearms. On February 14, another village leader identified as Bgy Captain Antonio De Ocampo of Bgy Daraga, Placer, Masbate was arrested for possessing three unlicensed high-powered firearms.

STF Masbate troops had made several arrests around Masbate province in its bid to dismantle the various partisan armed groups (PAGs) who are involved in various election related violent incidents in the area.

The STF Masbate has already netted 10 PAGs members in its series of arrests and security operations around the province. Seven of suspects were alleged members of the Gerry Solasco PAGs members based in Pio V Corpuz, who were apprehended with their highpowered firearms on January 29, 2010.
