CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur – More or less 30 heavily-armed NPA rebels forcibly entered the house in Sorsogon of Private First Class Eliseo Gran of the 83rd Infantry Battalion at around 12:30pm yesterday, 03 March 2010.
In a text message, Glenda, the wife of said soldier complained that she was having lunch with some family members in their house in Bgy Trece, Bulan, Sorsogon when the rebels barged in. The rebels searched and took away all government-issue items such as uniforms, boots and other military paraphernalia.
“They robbed all the belongings of my husband!”, Mrs Gran said. She also narrated that some of the rebels were wearing slippers and they took turns trying the size of the stolen boots. After about five minutes of ransacking the house, the rebels fled towards the direction of Bgy Lomboy.
After the discovery of the PTC/PTW extortion scheme, the rebels are said to have a tough time collecting money from politicians and businessmen since many have started resisting extortion attempts.
“The rebels are using part of their extortion income to feed their own families. Extortion is the major source of income for the NPA bandits and now, they are having a hard time collecting them”, said Major Harold M Cabunoc, 9ID Spokesperson.
“We strongly condemn this act of banditry by the CPP-NPA-NDF”, said Major General Ruperto Pabustan, Commander of the 9th Infantry Division here. “In due time, the perpetrators will be caught by government forces since we have many civilian supporters in the area. We will also help the victims file robbery case against the bandit group”, he added.
