CAMP BONI SERRANO, Masbate City – Another Masbate solon turns over assorted firearms to police and military authorities at 9:00am today, a military official said.
Major Harold M Cabunoc, Division Spokesperson, said that JSTF Masbate officials received 9 assorted firearms from Representative Rizalina “Dayan” Lanete’s political ally, Vice Governor Vicente Homer Revil.
The firearms hoard, believed to be owned by Lanete’s supporters, included one Cal 7.62mm M14 Rifle, one Cal 5.56mm M16A1 Rifle, one Cal .30 US M1 Garand, two 9mm KG9 Submachine Pistol and 4 US M1911A1 Cal .45 Pistols.
Revil said that Representative Lanete and her allies support the goal of the other Masbate politicians in renouncing political violence. “We would also like to lure more business investments for the province,” said Revil.
Days earlier, two other prominent politicians, Representatives Antonio Kho and Narciso Bravo Jr, turned over a total of 44 assorted firearms in separate occasions.
Col Alvin Tiamwatt, AFP Special Task Force Masbate commander said that he appreciated the genuine efforts of the political leaders to ‘change the image’ of the province which had been renowned for its high number of political violence during election period.
“We are now more motivated to perform our mandates because our political leaders had shown the best example on how to extend full cooperation with the local authorities,” Tiam Watt said.
