1 Dead, 2 Missing Fishermen Reported in Catanduanes Island

CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur – Combined Disaster Response Teams sent out by military and police authorities in Catanduanes have recorded 1 dead, 1 rescued and 2 missing fishermen, two days after typhoon “Basyang’s” onslaught in the Bicol Region.

Quoting a report from the local police, LtCol Danilo Aquino, Commander of the 83rd Infantry Battalion, identified the dead as Gilberto Baynosa Jr, 25, a resident of Cabacungan village in Caramoan, Camarines Sur.

Aquino also said that Baynosa’s father, Gilberto Sr., was rescued alive by fellow fishermen as he was clinging to a floating debris, tagging around his dead son.

Baynosa Sr was immediately brought by his rescuers to a local hospital in Caramoan town for immediate treatment. He was reportedly suffering from hypothermia after more than 24-hours of staying in the water.

Aquino also reported that 2 more people went missing from Gigmoto town after their fishing boat was swept away by the waves Monday night. The victims were identified as Alex Azicate,30, and Jason Arcilla, 18yrs old.

Azicate and Arcilla were reported to have left Gigmoto town at around 7:00am last Monday.

The 9ID Public Affairs Office has logged 5 dead, 22 rescued, and 26 missing people who are subject to massive search and rescue operations until today.
