CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur – A New Peoples Army (NPA) recruiter was killed and many others wounded in an encounter in Cantanduanes Province.today (July 12), a military official said.

LtCol Danilo Aquino, Commander of the 83rd Infantry Battalion based in that province, said that he sent a crack platoon of his unit led by First Lieutenant Juniedy P Omandam to Macutal Village in Baras town after receiving a phone call from a parent about the recruitment activity of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP-NPA) in their place.

“A crying mother complained to me about the forcible recruitment of her unemployed son who was too afraid to join the rebel group,” Aquino said.

While approaching the said village, a firefight erupted as more or less 15 rebels fired upon the soldiers at around 10am.
