Village Watchman Nabbed by Army Soldiers in Masbate

CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur – A village watchman was arrested by Army Soldiers for carrying an unlicensed firearm in Masbate at around 9:00pm on 16 August 2010, a military official said.

LtCol Anthony Purugganan, Commander of the 9th Infantry Battalion said that the platoon led by 1st Lieutenant Welbin Beda chanced upon Henry Suplito, 47, who was carrying an unlicensed 9mm Ingram Submachine Pistol in Purok Village of Aroroy Town.

“My soldiers were conducting security operations in the Village when they spotted Hipolito who was carrying a loaded firearm. He did not resist arrest when accosted”, said Purugganan.

Hipolito and his firearm were turned over to Aroroy police for investigation and filing of criminal case.

Masbate is renowned for having numerous loose firearms owned by the local populace.

At least One Hundred (100) firearms were confiscated by government forces during this year’s elections in Masbate province alone.
