Homemade bomb explosion kills 3 in Masbate

CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur – An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explodes in a house in Masbate over the weekend killing three (3) people, a military official said today.
        

LtCol Anthony Purugganan, Commander of the 9th Infantry Battalion said that the explosion was caused when small scale miner named Regie Refil accidentally ignited the IED inside his house in Panique Village, Aroroy Town at 3pm last Saturday, Nov 6, 2010.

The blast instantly killed Refil and his brother Willy. Another man identified as Raymund Relos, was evacuated to a hospital but expired along the way. Police and Army investigators who rushed to the scene said that the trio were fabricating the explosive for their illegal gold panning activity.
      

Major General Ruperto R Pabustan, Commander of the 9th Infantry Division has directed 9th IB to closely monitor the illegal use of explosives in the gold mines of Aroroy Town and apprehend the violators in coordination with the police.
