Army Clash with Communist Rebels in Masbate

A firefight erupted between Army soldiers and a band of communist rebels in Masbate province in the morning of November 25, 2011.

The team of soldiers belonging to the 9th Infantry Battalion led by 1st Lieutenant Ronnie Garchitorena was conducting security operations in the village of Manlot-od, Placer town when they chanced upon at least 10 rebels.

A 15-minute gunbattle ensued after which the rebels fled with their casualties.

The soldiers confiscated an M653 Rifle (Baby Armalite), an MK2 fragmentation grenade and a Cal 38 pistol from the rebels.

No one was hurt among the soldiers. They conducted pursuit operations together with elements from the local police.
