CAA Detachment fired upon by local terrorists

Viga, Catanduanes - The CAFGU Detachment of Brgy. Summit, Viga, Catanduanes was fired upon by more or less ten (10) heavily armed local terrorists at around 7AM today, August 21, 2009.

Positioned about 500 meters southeast of the detachment, local terrorists fired their weapons towards the direction of the detachment for about ten minutes before fleeing towards Sitio Corepdas, San Miguel, Catanduanes. No fatalities were reported from among the government troops manning the said military outpost. In response, a squad of soldiers was dispatched to track the enemy along their route of withdrawal.

The number of local terrorists has significantly dwindled as a result of consistent military operations conducted by the troops of 9th Infantry (Spear) Division. A small number of terrorists however still continue to roam around the remote barangays for extortion activities. Local residents have been complaining that such extortion activity is a menace to their community because it seriuosly affects their meager income intended to support their families.
