CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur – Another cell site of Globe Telecommunications Company was attacked and burned down by Local Terrorist Group (LTG) in Sitio Tagungtong, Barangay Agdangan, Baao, Camarines Sur at around 9:45pm, Saturday (August 15, 2009).
The 9th ID Spear Division Public Information Officer Major Harold M Cabunoc said that more or less seven local terrorist group members who were wearing military uniforms forcibly entered the gate of said cell site when the caretaker, Mrs. Daisy Buenaobra, refused to give the key to them. The said terrorists confiscated the two cell phones owned by Mrs. Buenaobra and her son when they hurriedly left after burning the telecom facility.
Major Cabunoc further said that Lt. Col. Ricardo F. Gabanzo, Battalion Commander of 42nd IB immediately sent a platoon of soldiers to track down the fleeing enemy who withdrew towards Barangay Icban of same municipality. Lt. Col. Gabanzo also coordinated with the caretaker of globe cell site and Chief Inspector Mora, Chief of Police of Baao PNP, to assess the damage on the said cell site.
The residents, especially the business sector, most of whom are Globe subscribers are deeply frustrated by this atrocity committed by the Local Terrorist Group. According to them, “these acts of violence perpetrated by the terrorists had adversely affected their normal lives”. As a result to this attack, operations of various business establishments were hampered, hurting their sources of income.
Major General Ruperto R. Pabustan, Commander of the 9th Infantry (Spear) Division, Philippine Army, said that these terroristic actions perpetrated by the LTGs in the area unmask the true color of the enemy. He stressed that the LTGs are anti-poor and anti-development because of their persistent attacks on telecom facilities that do not provide them extortion money. He also praised the Globe Telecoms for their strict adherence to the “No to Extortion Policy”. “The Local Terrorist Group can use the extortion money to procure more firearms and ammunitions that they can use to terrorize the local people so everyone must avoid giving in to this demand by the enemy”, he added.
