CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur – After completing more than a month of of pre–deployment training, the newly activated 83rd Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army will be deployed in the Bicol Region. The closing ceremony was held on August 17, 2009 at Camp Francisco V. Canuto in Barangay Sagurong, Pili, Camarines Sur.
The ceremony was witnessed by Colonel Marlou L. Salazar, 901st Brigade Commander who was the keynote speaker together with invited barangay officials in the said locality. The 83rd IB successfully completed the prescribed instructions set forth in the battalion re–training program of the AFP, dated July 1, 2009. The battalion was activated by Headquarters Philippine Army on June 22, 2009 pursuant to HPA Special Orders Nr 363.
In his message during the occasion, Colonel Salazar described the 83rd IB troopers as professional soldiers who are now ready to serve the people of Bicol Region by establishing a security condition that is conducive to development. Addressing the soldiers, he said, “Once you are deployed, you will be tested and your performance will be evaluated”.
The deployment of this battalion under 901st Infantry Brigade of the 9th Infantry (Spear) Division will augment the existing infantry battalions that are currently deployed in the field to carry out assigned ISO-related tasks. The 83rd IB will be tasked to carry out peace and development projects in the area in coordination with the Engineers Battalion of the Philippine Army and other NGOs through their linkaging activities.
