2 NPA Rebels Captured By Army And PNP Troops In Catanduanes

CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur – Two (2) members of the New Peoples Army (NPA) were arrested by the joint forces of the Philippine Army and Philippine National Police following combined operations in Barangay Napo, Viga Catanduanes on November 20, 2009, a regional Army spokesman said.

Army Major Harold M. Cabunoc, spokesman of 9th Infantry Division, revealed that a certain Jodel Tohot AKA Arnel was arrested by the at around 10:30am by combined elements of 83rd Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army and Viga PNP personnel. He said that Tohot is an active member of the NPA operating in the said municipality.

In a follow up operation, at around 4:30pm of the same day, another NPA member was arrested by the same group using the information provided by Tohot. The said rebel was identified as Nelson Alegre and reported to be operating in the municipality of Caramoran, Catanduanes. Both captive rebels are brought to 83IB for custodial debriefing.

Major Cabunoc further stated that another 13 NPA rebels were captured by 9ID troops for the month of November alone. The neutralization of other active NPA rebels was accomplished through the help of the surrenderors of the 83IB under LTC Romeo Basco. So far, a total of 44 rebels have already surrendered to 9ID troops this year only.
