Another NPA Member Surrendered To Government Troops

CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur – Another active member of the New Peoples Army (NPA) voluntarily surrendered to government troops in Donsol, Sorsogon on Tuesday afternoon (November 17) through the village officials and members of Bantay Bayan, an Army officer said.

9th Infantry Division spokesman Major Harold M. Cabunoc said that Noel Glovo Longaza AKA “Demar” of Barangay Pawala of said municipality surrendered to 1LT Julius Apolinar M. Feria, commanding officer of Charlie Company, 9th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army. Major Cabunoc disclosed that the surrender was facilitated by the the barangay officials and Bantay Bayan members. Longaza, a member of Kilusang Seksiyon sa Platon 3 (KSPN3) of Front Committee Jaylo, turned-over a Caliber .38 revolver which he used while still active in the rebel movement.

Citing existing records in the 9th Infantry Division, Major Cabunoc added that, “Longaza is the 42nd member of the CPP-NPA-NDF to surrender as of this time. This clearly shows that more members of the local terrorist group are becoming disgruntled with the rebel movement due to lack of popular support.”

In an isolatd incident, troops of Alpha Company, 83rd Infantry Battalion while conducting security check point at around 1:30pm last Wednesday (November 18) in Sitio Bagong Baryo, Barangay Milaviga, Caramoran, Catanduanes confiscated one Caliber .38 revolver and ammunitions from the possession of one Ruben Velasco, believed to be a local terrorist group (LTG) member. Velasco is a resident of Kilometer 80 (KM 80) Barangay Sabloyon of the same municipality. The suspect was brought to the Tactical Command Post (TCP) of Alpha Company, 83IB for tactical interrogation.
