CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur – A couple who are members of the Local Terrorist Group (LTG) might spend their Christmas in jail after they were arrested by joint elements of 9th Infantry Battalion (9IB) of the Philippine Army and PNP 5th Regional Mobile Group (5RMG) in Barangay Pawala, Donsol, Sorsogon in the early morning of November 2, 2009. The suspects were identified as Jerry Esquivel aka “Randy“, spokesman of the dismantled Front Committee Jaylo, and Maricel Bansan aka “Myla”, both residents of Donsol, Sorsogon. They were apprehended by virtue of warrant of arrest for murder, attempted murder, and rebellion cases issued by Judge Honesto Villamor and Judge Borneges C. Candolea of Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 52 and 53 in Sorsogon City respectively. No bail was recommended by the court for the suspects due to the gravity of the criminal offenses filed against them.
Major Harold M. Cabunoc, spokesman of 9th Infantry Division, Philippine Army, said the apprehension of the suspects was the result of close coordination between the 903rd Infantry Brigade and the local residents. The couple was turned-over to the PNP by Charlie Company of 9IB.
Meanwhile, 9th Infantry Division Commander Major General Ruperto R. Pabustan lauded the people of Sorsogon for their continued cooperation with the PNP and AFP units.
